As a licensed massage therapist and trained birth doula in addition to being a yoga teacher, I weave in timely pregnancy and birth discussions, targeted massage practices and specific birth preparation techniques throughout our yoga session.
Gain access to our community of yoga moms to ask questions, learn from each other and get encouragement as needed.
Looking for additional support as you prepare for labor and delivery? Reach out for an immediately available recording of my Birth Workshop for Expectant Couples,
Feeling stiff or achy, getting headaches or pain or feel like your body could use some extra help, consider scheduling a myofascial release therapy session. When appropriate, I can also refer you to midwives, lactation consultants, chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, function medicine practitioners, or physical therapists, etc for additional support.

I Teach Evidence Based Practices. Here Is The Research!
- Effects of prenatal yoga: a systematic review of randomized controlled trialsConclusion: "The findings suggest that prenatal yoga may help reduce pelvic pain. It may also improve mental condition (stress, depression, anxiety, etc.), physical condition (pain and pleasure at the delivery, etc.), and perinatal outcomes (obstetrical complications, delivery time, etc.)"- Prenatal Yoga: Effects on Alleviation of Labor Pain and Birth Outcomes Conclusion: "The study has highlighted that yoga is a noninvasive, easy to learn mind-body medicine and complementary health practice, effective in alleviation of labor pain and possibly improving birth outcome."- Yoga and massage therapy reduce prenatal depression and prematurityConclusion: "Following 12 weeks of twice weekly yoga or massage therapy sessions (20 min each) both therapy groups versus the control group had a greater decrease on depression, anxiety and back and leg pain scales and a greater increase on a relationship scale. In addition, the yoga and massage therapy groups did not differ on neonatal outcomes including gestational age and birthweight, and those groups, in turn, had greater gestational age and birthweight than the control group."

These props can be helpful but aren't required and alternative options will be shown:
- Yoga mat or non-slip bare floor
- 1-2 yoga blocks (or a sturdy foot stool or chair)
- 1-2 firm blankets (for comfort and support in some poses)
- A sturdy chair (idealy without arms)
- Yoga strap (a tie or belt works great)
- Some space to practice away from things you might knock over
- A wall nearby can be helpful too
I'll send an email before class if we need specific props for a particular class!

What my students say:
"I took Darlene’s yoga classes when I was pregnant and they were awesome! I absolutely attribute my yoga practice for one of the reasons why I was able to have the unmedicated and non-intervention birth that I wanted. She’s super knowledgeable about not just the yoga practice itself, but also about the specifics of the human body and why it does what it does. That knowledge, yoga positioning, and different stress relief techniques definitely helped to calm me down during my second and third trimester and empowered me to have a wonderful pregnancy. I highly recommend her yoga practice."

"My first interaction with Darlene was as my prenatal yoga instructor. She gave me confidence in the birth process and helped my body adapt to its ever-changing shape. I have continued with Darlene and appreciate her knowledge of how a woman’s body changes with time.
I also see Darlene for myofascial release therapy. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of the muscles, tendons & ligaments of the body. She has gone above and beyond to understand my body and help it move freely again."
